Q: Is the transmission workable to drive 50 miles possibly? Any other major mechanical or rust issues?

A: The transmission was recently flushed to try to correct the issue but it did not work. Talking with our Chief he said it can be driven but you cannot go fast without it having issues. Very little rust and no other known mechanical issues.
