This guide walks through creating a listing on Municibid. You must be signed in with a seller account that is approved to sell.

1. Click Sell

From the top of the site, click Sell to start a new listing.

2. Choose a category (Step 1 of 2)

Select the category that best matches your item, then continue. If you pick the wrong category, use Back. If you do not see a fit, contact Municibid support.

3. Listing title and description (Step 2 of 2)

Listing title: Keep it short and clear so bidders can spot the item in search results.

Description: Add as much useful detail as you can — condition, dimensions, mileage, model numbers, and any known issues. Honest details cut down on questions later. Use the formatting tools (bold, lists, and so on) to make the description easy to read.

Optimize Description: You can use Optimize Description to generate an AI-enhanced version. Compare it with your original and keep the one you want.

4. Seller’s terms and conditions

Add any agency-specific rules bidders should know, such as pickup windows, appointment requirements, required documents, or “sold as-is” language. These are in addition to Municibid’s Terms and Conditions.

5. Additional details

Fill in the extra fields for your item. Common options include:

  • Custom ID — your agency’s internal inventory number

  • Voted on — if the sale needs a vote, select yes and the vote date (end the auction as close to that date as you can)

  • Shipping — whether you are willing to ship

  • Item inspection — contact name and phone if bidders must schedule a viewing

For vehicles, you may also see fields such as whether it starts, whether it is drivable, transferable title, miles, and VIN. After you enter a VIN, use verify so year, make, and model can fill in when the VIN is valid (17 characters).

6. Price and tax

Starting bid is required to post. A low starting bid usually attracts more bidders. A common approach is about 10% of estimated market value.

Reserve price is optional. Use a reserve only if you will not sell below that amount. Until bidding reaches the reserve, the listing shows that the reserve is not yet met. If the auction ends below reserve, it is unsuccessful — you may still be able to offer the item to the highest bidder afterward.

Tax: If your agency must charge tax, turn that on and enter the percentage.

7. Add media

Add photos of the item. You need at least 3 images to publish. The first image is the cover photo. Drag photos to reorder them, and add more as needed.

8. Payment details

Enter your payment instructions — accepted methods and when payment is due.

9. Start and end date

Start date: Choose when the auction should open, or leave it blank to start when you post.

End date: Choose when the auction should close. Weekdays between about 10:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. usually work well; on Fridays, ending by about 3:00 p.m. is a common choice. If you list several items, stagger end times by 5–10 minutes. If the item will be voted on, end as close to the vote date as possible.

10. Review, save draft, or post

Review your listing, then click Post Listing to publish, or Save as a Draft to finish later.

To reopen a draft later, go to My Municibid → Drafts. From there you can edit the draft or activate/post it when it is ready.
