Up for sale is a 2016 Chevrolet Express 4500 built by AEV. It is a TraumaHawk line of ambulance. The vehicle currently has 235568 miles on the odometer, and a stack too big to scan of maintenance records.

Our agency purchased the vehicle in hopes of using this as a main ambulance in our fleet, however after removing all decals previously applied, we noticed corrosion in the ambulance box that is too much for our budget. To be clear, the box is solid, and well maintained, but has some corrosion under the paint, surface level that would need attention. Strip the paint, treat the corrosion and repaint. There is also an issue with the rear passenger door on the box. The mechanism is rusted almost solid. As it sits, the door is open, but will need the internals replaced.

This ambulance was in service, from new, in a large metropolitan hospital in Maine. Records for maintenance cover everything from oil changes, to tires, alignments, CEL codes and fixes, wipers, etc. If this vehicle had a squeak, the dealer looked at it. 

I purchased this vehicle and had it shipped via trailer from Maine to Central PA. Once received, I personally put 4 miles on it, and parked it. The main issue I see is the need to either replace the entire DEF tank/Injector/Sensor or remove and retune for no DEF system. A warning light is on, and the message shows "Speed Limited to 4 MPH". The vehicle does go faster than 4 MPH even with the warning. I attempted to resolve the error message "Poor Quality DEF Fluid" by filling the tank with fresh DEF fluid, but it did not help. The common error is the sensor/Injector for the system.

The Ambulance has new studded snow tires on the rear, and fresh tires up front. The 6.6 Diesel engine runs smooth and quiet, transmission shifts perfectly. The O2 cabinet holds 2 full size cylinders. The interior is clean and well maintained. The vehicle will need new rear view mirrors on the outside (one is missing, the other is taped up) and the brake pedal switch is bad. I can order a replacement and install it, I just have not been able to deal with it as of yet.

Looking through the service records I show Differential checks and services, new brakes, new shocks and most other maintenance items listed up through 2021. I purchased the vehicle in early 2023 and it has sat, indoors in a climate controlled facility since.

At this time, the vehicle is listed with no reserve, however our Board of Directors will need to vote to accept the winning bid. Shipping must be arranged by the buyer. We can assist at the time of pickup but we are not responsible for arranging any transport services.
