With Municibid, pricing is clear and up-front. A buyer’s fee (a percentage of the winning bid) is charged to the winning bidder when the auction closes, using the credit card on your account. You’ll see the fee on each listing and on the bid confirmation page before you bid.
Paying for the item is separate from the buyer’s fee. Check your invoice: if it shows Pay Now, Municibid is collecting payment for that listing. If it says to pay the agency directly, follow the Payment Details on the listing page. Don’t assume you always pay the seller — it depends on the listing.
You must pay any unpaid buyer’s fee before you can place new bids. Sellers are not responsible for collecting buyer’s fees.
All buyer’s fees are aggregate unless otherwise noted. After you cross certain price thresholds, a different rate applies to the remaining amount. See the examples below.
Example:
If the buyer’s fee is 9% for bids up to $99,999.99, 6% for bids $100,000–$499,999.99, and 5% for bids over $500,000:
Winning bid $50,000: buyer’s fee $4,500 (9% of $50,000).
Winning bid $150,000: buyer’s fee $12,000 (9% of $100,000 = $9,000) + (6% of $50,000 = $3,000).
Winning bid $550,000: buyer’s fee $35,500 (9% of $100,000 = $9,000) + (6% of $400,000 = $24,000) + (5% of $50,000 = $2,500).
Where can I see the buyer’s fee?
On the listing page under the current price (bid area and auction details), and on the page where you confirm your bid.
Buyer’s fee status shows as paid or unpaid. Unpaid fees restrict new bidding until they’re cleared.
What if a buyer’s fee payment is declined? The fee shows as unpaid. Municibid may send a collection notice, and further steps may be taken to recover the payment.
What if the selling agency rejects my bid? If the agency rejects your bid (they reserve the right to do so), your buyer’s fee is returned in full within 5 days after Municibid is notified of the rejection.
