Farrington Township sits in the northeast corner of Jefferson County, Illinois, bordering Marion County to the north and Wayne County to the east. One of sixteen townships in the county, it traces its roots to 1869 and is governed today by a township board. The village of Farrington itself was laid out in 1856, though it later declined, leaving the township's identity tied more to its land than to any single settlement.
